At Riverside House, we are continually reminded of the power of kindness, and recently, that kindness came through in a big way thanks to our friends at the YG Institute.
Because of their generosity, our residents were treated to an unforgettable evening at a Marlins game. For our residents, it was more than just an evening out; it was a chance for them to feel seen, included, and valued.
The impact was deeply moving. One resident shared that walking into LoanDepot Park to see his first-ever baseball game was something he never imagined would be possible, given his financial struggles. He described the moment as both surreal and deeply joyful. Another resident became emotional, saying he was moved to tears by the sheer generosity of being able to simply sit, enjoy a bag of popcorn, and watch a game without worrying about being cold or wet, as he often was while living on the streets. A third resident, a long-time Marlins fan, expressed overwhelming happiness at finally being able to cheer in person for a team he has followed faithfully for years. He said it made him feel more motivated to continue tackling the challenges associated with homelessness.
This thoughtful contribution brought more than entertainment; it brought dignity, belonging, and hope.
Thank you, YG Institute, for bringing joy into our residents’ lives and for reminding them that they matter. Your generosity created memories that they will carry with them for a lifetime.
