Cleve Bell, our CEO and a board member of the Black Affairs Advisory Board, and Carmen Bell, Community and Donor Relations Coordinator, recently attended the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce’s 50th Anniversary and Black History Month Kickoff event with Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. The event showcased spoken word poetry, awards recognizing community partners, a fashion show of authentic African attire, and unveiled an art exhibit that will be displayed throughout February for Black History Month.

The Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board (BAAB), along with various community-based organizations, recognizes various scheduled events each year by paying homage to the African American Diaspora for Black History Month. This year’s theme is “African Americans and the Arts”, established by the National Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). African American art is infused with African, Caribbean, and Black American lived existence and provides insight into these impassioned experiences. These events offer the opportunity to become immersed in the culture and contributions made by African Americans to this nation’s history.
