Riverside House Resident Selected for Telemundo’s LEAP Fellowship Program

By December 4, 2025 No Comments

At Riverside House, second chances aren’t just a belief; they’re our daily work. Every day, men and women leaving incarceration rebuild stability, rediscover purpose, and step into new possibilities. Our team visited Telemundo’s headquarters for a facility tour and witnessed firsthand the heart behind their LEAP Fellowship Program, a commitment to diversity, equity, and second chances that is deeply human.

One resident experienced that hope firsthand.

Thanks to NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ fellowship opportunity, he was selected for a role that provides real-world skills and a fresh start. His journey is a reminder of what becomes possible when faith, support, and opportunity come together.

Here is his story — in his own words:

MY JOURNEY

“My transition from prison to Riverside House has been good. I’ve lived a long life with many stories, but one thing has never changed: my faith in God. Since arriving, I’ve filed for my retirement, started rebuilding my stability, and even secured my own apartment.”

HOW I WAS CHOSEN

“When Mrs. Taylor heard about Telemundo’s internship/fellowship program, she asked the team if anyone had experience in film or television. My case manager recommended me because I used to make short films. After interviewing with the leaders at Telemundo, they told me they were impressed with my skills.”

MY REACTION

“I was excited, but also confused at first. They called it a “fellowship,” so I thought it might be a religious program. Once I got there, I realized it was an incredible opportunity. I was shocked by all the shows, sets, and newsrooms. I love building things, so seeing now they create props made me even more excited.”

MY EXPERIENCE SO FAR

“I’ve never been in a place like Telemundo before. Everything is new to me. I walk in every day, amazed by how they work and how much creativity fills the building.”

WHAT I HOPE TO LEARN

“To me, it feels like being part of “making magic.” I’m learning new computer skills, understanding how a major TV company works, and getting hands-on with equipment and techniques I haven’t used since my filmmaking days. I’m growing in ways I never imagined.”

We are incredibly grateful to partners like NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, who recognize the value and potential within every individual and choose to invest in second chances.

Because when opportunity opens a door, hope walks right in.
