When you meet Herman Avalos, you don’t just meet a talented barber; you meet a man whose life reflects the power of redemption, purpose, and saying yes to God.
Originally from California, Herman once came to Miami in pursuit of the party scene, fun, distractions, and a fast-paced lifestyle. But everything changed when he encountered Jesus Christ and felt the call to serve rather than be served. That moment redirected his entire story.
With over six years of professional barbering experience, Herman began offering free haircuts to friends and fellow church members. What started small quickly became a ministry, and today, Herman faithfully visits Riverside House each week to provide free haircuts to our homeless clients and residential reentry residents.
A simple Google search led him to discover Riverside House, and we are deeply grateful that God brought him here. Herman also serves with Antioch Church in Wynwood, partnering with others to share hope and dignity with those who often feel overlooked.
His presence at Riverside House is more than a service; it is a reminder to every resident in the chair that they are seen, valued, and worthy of a fresh start.
Herman’s story teaches us this: When we place our gifts in God’s hands, He uses them to transform lives, one haircut at a time. 💫
We are blessed to have Herman as part of the Riverside House family, and we celebrate the love he brings into our community every week.
