• 2 Back to School: A Guide to Continuing Your Education After Prison

  We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the John Jay College of Criminal Justice's Prisoner Reentry Institute for composing this report and for allowing us to share it with our friends.

  Back to School is intended to serve as a national resource guide for currently and formerly incarcerated individuals planning to pursue or continue their education post-release.

  BACK TO SCHOOL includes the following components:

  • An overview of the process of planning for and gaining an education.

  • Strategies for setting realistic educational and professional goals.

  • Information and access points for education programs ranging from literacy through academic and vocational post-secondary.

  • Instructions for applying for financial assistance.

  • First-person accounts and advice from formerly incarcerated students who have realized a diverse array of educational achievements.

• 3 Reentry Survival Manual

  The Reentry Survival Manual was created by Rutgers University's Center for Mental Health Services and Criminal Justice Research. It is a guide for prisoners who are preparing for their release. It is based on the experiences of people who have already left prison and those who are leaving prison.
